Best of Show at Photography competition

I'm absolutely ecstatic to say that a photograph that I took while on my trip out west of this year, won first place in the Adult Division of the Mid-Missouri Fine Art Society/Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame co-sponsored photography contest. But wait, that's not all....it also took the Best of Show award! Wow! The photo was of a little red fox kit peeking out of a den site, with dirt on his nose and one paw....obviously helping to make the den a bit bigger. My daughter named the photo "Peek A Boo"

Le Cadeau Du Cheval-"The Horse Gift" Mural...

I'm pleased to announce that I have been selected as one of the participating artists for this mural. The mural is representing equine artists all over the world, coming together, to celebrate the horse....you can watch the progression and find out about touring schedules at this link: Mural Mosaic

June 26 thru June 29 Julie T Chapman Summer Workshop...

I will be attending the Julie T Chapman Summer Workshop in Kalispell, MT. The workshop focuses on photographing, sketching, and "seeing" wildlife. Hopefully, I will come out of this workshop with stronger drawing, painting, and composition skills as well as "energized" to start working with some of the invaluable reference material I hope to collect while there. To check out the workshop "menu" and details please visit Julie's workshop link.Julie T Chapman

June 30 thru Jul 6 Trip to Glacier National Park...

I will be trekking the trails of Glacier National Park, taking in the sites, sounds, and smells of the "great outdoors". I hope to gather some excellent reference material for future paintings as well as do a little plein air (on location) painting while there. I will be attending Julie Chapman's drill camp...er...I mean workshop...(just kidding Julie...although I hear it is a lot of hard work and guaranteed to wear me out!)the week before, so I will be looking forward to wandering the trails of Glacier, taking it easy next to some of the water features in the park, soaking up God's work, watching the wildlife, and just plain "chillin". Don't get me wrong, I'll be somewhat "roughing" it while out there, I'll be staying in a guard station cabin with no water and an outhouse outside. I have to say, I'm really looking forward to this and would've been fine with roughin it a bit more and staying outside, camping, but did I mention they have bears!??!!? Yep, that's one thing, I'd rather not wake up to....I know...I'm a pansy..... Check back here in July...I plan to post a "trip journal". In the meantime, you can check out Glacier at the following link:Glacier National Park To check out some tidbits from the trip go to: Trip Journal

I have to say that I feel my first MMFAS art fair was a success! I had no idea what to expect and I was absolutely thrilled by the turn out and support. Thank you to all who stopped by my booth and shared compliments on my work and took my information with you. A huge thank you to those who took home some of my artwork....what an honor. I hope you enjoy it for years to come!
To the couple who bought "Prayin'" and gave it a new home in Florida, thank you...you made my evening! I hope it survived the flight OK and that it was a perfect fit at it's new home.
For those of you who weren't able to make it to this year's art fair, just give me a call or drop me an email, I'd be more than happy to send you some photo's or arrange to show you some artwork. To view some of my booth photos from the art fair, please click on any of the following links:

I will be exhibiting at the Washington Art and Wine Fest. This is an outdoor event co-sponsered by Downtown Washington and the Mid-Missouri Fine Arts Society. It is held along the riverfront and on the first couple of streets up from the riverfront in downtown, Washington, Missouri. This year is the 25th anniversary of the show and hopefully, it's biggest ever. It is an amazing show with some extraordinary artists, both local and from out of state. You'll find booths with artwork in just about any medium you can think of such as; oils, watercolors, pastels, pottery, glass, paper, mixed media etc.
I hope to see a lot of my "fans" there and hopefully find a new home for some of my artwork! Come by and see me, I plan to have several new pieces for this show, including a large, wildlife painting.

The Mid-Missouri Fine Art Society (MMFAS) and Downtown Washington will be hosting the 24th annual Art and Wine Fest in Washington, Missouri. This should definately be a learning experience for me! For more information on this, please write to: Art Fair Committee, P.O. Box 2043, Washington, MO 63090 or email me.

March 3,4,5,6, 2005

I will be attending my third portrait workshop in Gravois Mills, Missouri with the very talented/gifted artist, Karen Patton. I highly recommend her workshops. She was one of the major keys in my new endeavor of painting portraits. Anyone who knows me, knows that I didn't like to paint/draw people....just couldn't do it, nor did I want to. I have always loved drawing but it had to be animals. My high school art teacher even joked that I would always find a way to incorporate an animal into my "8 hour" projects. This is where she'd give us a topic and then we had to draw a picture depicting the topic. We were to work on this topic all quarter or semester (I can't remember which) long, completely on our own time. It was a lot of hard work but a lot of fun! I will never forget those drawings or that teacher.
Anyway, back to the subject....if you're interested in attending one of Karen's workshops, please visit her website at www.portraits4you.com

August 2004

The painting that I donated to the Arro Sharp-Shooters, (a local group who works together to raise money for the American Cancer Society) for their raffle was just shy of raising $1000. Not bad considering that they were a dollar a ticket! The painting was raffled at the Relay for Life event in Sullivan, MO. The group participates every year to raise the most money in honor of Josh Kaufman. To learn more about this event and about Josh, please visit the Josh Kaufman Foundation's website at www.joshkaufmanfoundation.org
