Workin up a lather

"Workin up a lather"

20"x16" Oil on Canvas Board -SOLD

This painting is based on a team of Belgian horses I watched at a draft horse pull. When it was their turn, they were rarin' to go and just pulled "their hearts out" as soon as they were given the cue. They were really working up a lather/sweat and were choppin' at their bits during the whole competition. They really seemed to have the competitive spirit and the drive to win.

This painting is also in memory of my grandpa "Ship". It reminds me of the times I spent with him tending to a team of Belgians he had at his house for a summer. Every day I went out with him to "help" feed, water, brush, or harness this team. I also attended draft horse pulls, thrasher's shows, and other horse drawn demo's with him. It was time well spent and cherished!

I can't help but think that this painting would be one of his favorites if he were here to day to see it.
