This painting is a portrait of one of my best friend's niece. I've known Vanessa's mom since she was little since I was best of friends with her older sister. The whole family is wonderful and they've all been so encouraging of my artwork so, when Rachel asked if I would be interested in trying to paint a portrait of her daughter, I told her to send me some photos and I'd give it a try when I had a chance. Well, it turns out that the photo I chose to work from was taken on Vanessa's first birthday. Needless to say, that made it extra special. Rachel made my day when she came to pick the portrait up, she was without words.....and has since, been some of my best advertisement! She told me she took it everywhere to show it off and that it has become one of her most treasured possessions. Hearing compliments like that definately reconfirms my choice to continue painting.....it makes it all worth while.
