This painting is of a baby, wild, turkey that my husband and kids happened upon during one of their walks, one spring/early summer afternoon. My husband noticed a hen running off towards the woods and noticed something little scattering around behind her. They creeped up to the grass where they saw the little ones scatter and caught a glipse of some movement. The chicks, at this age, hide as their defense, rather than run like the hen. They are camouflaged quite well. Had my husband not noticed the movement, he and the kids probably would have walked right past this little guy. After snapping a couple of photos and convincing my daughter that she couldn't take it home and keep it as a pet, they walked away. They watched a few minutes later as the hen return and gathered the chicks up to go on about their day.
