"The Guardian"

20"x24" Oil on Canvas SOLD

This painting is based on a photograph that I took at Lone Elk Park. I took the picture of this buffalo while hanging out of the door of the car (something I do alot, lately to get the "good shot"...ha ha). Of course the background is just something out of my imagination.

Lone Elk Park is one of my favorite places to go to get some "big game" reference photos. The park is a drive thru park but also has picnic locations, hiking trails, and a lake. The park has a pretty large herd of elk, buffalo, an abundance of white- tailed deer, lots of waterfowl on/around the lake, and you may even see the occasional wild turkey. It is a great place to take the kids and have an afternoon picnic. I've found that one of the best times to go is in the fall during the "rut" (mating season) of the elk and deer. The animals are more active and move about the park more and you get the treat of seeing some of the really large males "struttin' their stuff". If you're lucky you may even get to hear the elk bugling and see the occasional "spar" between two males.
