"Stare Down"18"x24" Oil on Canvas Board -SOLDThis portrait is based on some photographs of a horse that I "met" at a draft horse pull. I watched him and his teammate pull several times throughout the competition. They were one of the few teams of "dark horses" there. They were technically black but, the funny thing about a black horse is, depending on the light, and their degree of "sunburn", they may have some warm browns, golds, or even purples and blues in them. One of my art instructors, Peggy Dyke made the comment one time, "...black horses are so fun to paint because of all of their color." Before that class, I used to think they were plain, I mean, a black horse is black, right? I hope this painting conveys some of the beauty and strength that these horses possess. They are true gentle giants. « Prev Original   Next Original »Back to Originals |
