This painting is based on a combination of some photographs that my dad took while elk hunting in Colorado. The photos were just of the landscape. When I started the painting I didn't really intend to put the elk cows in the foreground, however, as I worked on the sketch for the painting, I decided it needed some wildlife. ...ha ha...there I go, back to my high school art days when I thought every piece of artwork had to have an animal in it. Some habits die hard.
